Outstanding Contribution Award
Noia’s Outstanding Contribution Award was established to recognize the exemplary contribution of an individual who has influenced the development of our local oil & gas industry through their work and lives.
The presentation piece received by recipients of the Outstanding Contribution Award was designed to reflect outstanding achievement in an industry that perseveres in the face of extreme environmental conditions. Artist Jim Maunder carefully designed and selected his materials to represent the elements which characterize the oil & gas industry. The tetrahedron shape represents strength, stability and perseverance. It is made from stainless steel and was laser cut by C & W Industrial for the artist. The base of the award is made from a stone mined in Labrador called Anhydrite, which is composed of iridescent blue crystals. The artist had this stone cut by Meyer’s Minerals of Pasadena, Newfoundland. Together, these three elements beautifully combine to create an award that represents twenty-five years of achievement and ingenuity within the industry.
Rising Star Award
The Rising Star Award recognizes the outstanding achievement made by an impressive individual who is 40 years old or younger who has made remarkable strides in their role within the oil & gas industry in Newfoundland & Labrador.
The Rising Star award presentation piece is a three dimensional, hand-forged bronze star rising out of a base of anhydrite, a white rippled, blue-ish hued stone highly suggestive of the ocean and native to Newfoundland and Labrador. The 16-inch star follows a steep, arching projectory, as if bursting out of the sea – an appropriate metaphor for the award recipient. Created through a process of cold forging and gas welding by local artist Jim Maunder, this piece has been awarded to Noia’s Rising Star recipient since the award’s 2014 inaugural year.
25th Anniversary Awards
Noia launched its Outstanding Contribution Award program in 2002 as part of the association’s 25th anniversary celebrations. That year, awards were presented to 12 individuals who had made a significant and long-lasting impact to the Newfoundland and Labrador oil & gas industry. Also during the celebrations Noia presented Partnership Awards to the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) in recognition of their outstanding and long-standing support of the province’s oil & gas industry.
