In preparation for the Oil & Gas Hackathon, we have identified three challenges that you can start thinking about now:

  • Training – centralized system for tracking industry training with the option for upgrades required for specific projects/operators

  • Incident reporting – industry wide, real-time notification of incidents/accidents related to safety

  • Unforeseen weather conditions – industry wide, real-time notification of serious weather conditions not forecasted that pose safety concerns (rogue waves, etc.)

If you have ideas for other challenges, let us know!  We aim to have 5 to 7 in total by the hackathon weekend. These challenges (along with some open options) will be presented at the kick-off, where teams will form around those that best align with their interests and expertise, then hack all weekend with the support and mentorship of industry. On the final day, teams will present their prototype and business model (plan to develop the prototype for industry) to a panel of judges.

We encourage you to get involved in Hacking Oil & Gas and would like to outline important next steps to help make our first hackathon a success:

  1. Register as a participant

  2. Share the evite with your team and networks and encourage their participation.

  3. Submit additional industry challenges to be “hacked” (goal is to have 5 to 7 total)
