Posted in Releases on July 19, 2017

St. John's, NL (July 19, 2017) -- The Newfoundland and Labrador Oil & Gas Industries Association (Noia), in partnership with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation (TCII), is planning a trade mission to Guyana during the week of September 11-15, 2017.

“Guyana is a frontier area for oil & gas exploration and development and may pose a substantial export opportunity for companies currently active in the Newfoundland and Labrador supply and service sector,” said Andrew Bell, Chair of Noia’s Board of Directors. “This mission is an excellent example of how Noia strives to fulfill an important aspect of our mandate which is to facilitate members’ participation in the global oil & gas industry.”

ACOA provided $102,300 to Noia to assist with market research, information sessions, matching local companies with opportunities in Guyana and in-market events.

“The Government of Canada is committed to supporting trade and investment initiatives which lead to a thriving business community and a more prosperous region,” said Seamus O’Regan, Member of Parliament for St. John’s South-Mount Pearl, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA. “Trade initiatives led by key partners such as Noia are helping to open doors to new and exciting opportunities for local companies in the oil & gas industry.”

“Newfoundland and Labrador companies operating in the oil & gas industry have developed experience, knowledge and expertise, and are well-positioned to access international opportunities in emerging markets,” said Nick Whalen, Member of Parliament for St. John’s East, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA. “This investment from the Government of Canada will enable local businesses to build industry capacity, foster international partnerships and generate export-based revenues.”

The mission will include pre-mission preparation, an information session, networking reception and business to business (B2B) meetings with companies in the market. As the result of an RFP process, Rob Strong & Associates and Caron Hawco Group have been contracted for consultancy services related to the project.

“Our government is pleased to be working closely with Noia and our federal partners at ACOA on this initiative,” said the Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation.  “Collaboration on projects like this is a great example of how our government is helping local companies undertake international business development activities, thereby enhancing trade and growing and diversifying our economy.  The oil & gas sector in Guyana appears to hold much promise, and our companies will do well to be involved early on to capitalize on the many opportunities that may arise in the area.”
