Noia Receives Responses from Provincial Political Parties

(St. John’s, NL – February 10, 2021) On January 22, 2021, Noia wrote the four parties participating in the Provincial General Election seeking responses to important questions facing the offshore oil & gas industry. Noia requested that responses be provided by February 4 and three parties have responded.

The questions posed by Noia covered a wide range of industry issues: local content and protection of the Atlantic Accord; support for the local supply and service sector; incentives for offshore exploration and development projects to attract investment and stimulate activity; promotion of the offshore; life-of-field benefits; seismic surveys; emissions reduction; health and safety; and creating a globally competitive regulatory regime.

“I thank the three parties for taking the time to answer Noia’s questions. Our offshore industry is in the middle of a critical period and requires strong leadership from elected officials. Hopefully, this exercise helped the parties define how they can provide that leadership and Noia members review and consider the responses as election day approaches. Noia encourages everyone to ask their candidates how they will chart a path to fuel our future.”
• Charlene Johnson, CEO, Noia

The letter sent to the political parties and their responses can be found here on the Noia website, as well as the social media platforms of the association via @NoiaNL. Noia has also emailed the responses directly to its members.

Support for the offshore oil and gas industry remains high in Newfoundland and Labrador with a recent survey conducted by MQO Research for Noia showing 80% of residents support offshore development. This is comparative to previous surveys conducted for Noia and illustrates that residents recognize the valuable contribution the offshore oil and gas industry has made to the people and communities of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Oil and Gas Industries Association (Noia) was founded in 1977 to represent the supply and service sector of the offshore oil and gas industry. Today, Noia represents approximately 460 member organizations worldwide which are involved in, or benefit from, the oil and gas industry of Newfoundland and Labrador. Noia members are a diverse representation of businesses that range from offshore supply boats and helicopters, health and safety equipment and training, engineering solutions and fabricators to law firms and human resource agencies.
